Ms. Julia Macris, MAPS

Child & Adolescent Psychologist

Julia Macris is a Psychologist in Newcastle whom is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Master of Business Psychology from the University of Newcastle. She is also currently undertaking her Clinical Masters to gain endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.

Julia is experienced in supporting clients of varying ages with differing complexities. Julia is passionate about assessment and believes they can better assist clients in understanding their neuropsychological profile, as well as recognising their strengths and areas which need support.

Julia employs a person-centred, strength-based approach drawing on elements from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Schema Therapy. Each session is individualised and tailored to meet the needs of the client. Julia also integrates attachment theory into her practice, helping clients understand how early attachment experiences shape their emotional responses and relationships. By exploring attachment patterns, she guides clients toward developing more secure, fulfilling connections with others and fostering greater emotional resilience.

Julia recognises the importance of rapport as well as the need for a collaborative approach, recognising clients are the experts in their own lives. She also utilises a neuro-affirming approach to all of her work, modelling a difference in the brain and framing challenges as differences rather than deficits.
